UMFA has learned of a website called LocAZu that allows students to trade textbooks, share study materials, lecture notes, course information, past and sample exams, as well as make professor and course reviews. This site is available across Canada, and is run by students from various universities.
Of particular concern is the platform for sharing course materials. The course materials you have created including lectures, course notes, laboratory materials, exams and other works created by Members for their class, are your intellectual property and cannot be published without your permission.
In order for students to be able to download items, they have to accumulate credits (called A+) which they get by uploading items themselves and getting others to join the site. The credits are also used to purchase reward items.
An individual with ties to this website has been contacting Members directly, asking them to share information about this site with students and to encourage them to rate their professors and courses based on a number of attributes.
UMFA strongly recommends against this method of sharing course materials. Members are encouraged to advise students that they do not have ownership rights to materials you develop, and that posting or any other means of publishing these materials is prohibited.
